pretty much as it says in the title, i am a sherlock fan fiction nerd and felt this would be an appropriate way of excusing all the hours i spend reading it rather than studying.

I Know It's Your Birthday, But I Still Prefer to Text - splendiferously

In which John begrudgingly turns one year older and leaves for work early without letting Sherlock give him his presents.

How about some fluff to help with the wait for series three? I must admit I do love my texting fics, and this one is smutty, funny, sweet and pretty much perfect. Who doesn’t love romantic Sherlock?

Time - lokiloo

It is 8 months, 9 days, 13 hours and 57 minutes since Sherlock Holmes has died.

Not that anyone is timing.

Short, but incredibly moving. I’ve re-read it so many times and it still breaks my heart every time. The premise is really very simple but is written beautifully and the last line is possibly my favorite last line of a fic to date.

Read it now.

Getting the Message - loveslashangst

Well-meaning but misguided attempts at matchmaking, via text-messaging.

There are quite a few texting fics floating about the Sherlock Fan fiction universe, and this is one of my real favorites. A mix between texting between the characters and a great plot and brilliant writing, this is a good balance between the novelty of texting and actual plot. I also adore Sarah in this fic, as in most she is just ‘the other woman’ which annoys me as I actually like her character, so I was glad to find a brilliant Sarah/Sherlock scene in here as well.

Go read, my pretties!

Folding, Unfolding, Refolding - tartanfics

Molly feels different, afterwards. She feels like she’s lost something, some part of herself that was capable of having a crush on Sherlock that, though pathetic, was at least honest and simple.

Warning: this fic will most likely leave you in a sobbing mess. Seriously. Possibly my favorite post-reichenbach fic I’ve read yet. It’s beautifully written, and is incredibly emotional. I must say I don’t like Molly in many fics as she’s either written too naively or loses all her charm and loveliness and everything I love about her in the show. In this I feel she’s written perfectly, she’s strong yet is still the bumbling girl from the lab.

Please, please read this. If you regret it, you can have a virtual cookie on me.

Mine - lyrical_sky

“Hey Sherlock, you don’t suppose John would-“
“I will end your life.”

I do love a bit of possessive Sherlock :) Very short, but very funny, and very sweet! A brilliantly written Sherlock as well, and all in all a bit of fun and fluff! Enjoy!

Pax Americana - emmadelosnardos

“There is a very thin line between that which kills and that which heals.” As John is preparing to leave 221B, Sherlock forces his hand with a surprise trip to NYC. But will Sherlock ever understand sentiment? Will John trust Sherlock not to harm him?

This is a really lovely fic. I have a personal love for fics that show the change from friends to a relationship, and this one does is really well. New York is actually a really lovely setting for these two. At first I wasn’t sure if it would work as I have read a few holiday fics that just didn’t work, but I think the character’s are well written enough here to cope with it. But be warned: Do NOT start reading this late at night! So far it’s 26 Chapters long and you will NOT want to stop reading half way through!

A Death in the Family - Norah Rose

“When John’s father dies, Sherlock accompanies him back to his
hometown for the funeral. Bonding ensues.”

This fic isn’t actually all that far into the plot yet, but between the amazing first chapter, Sherlock agreeing John could get a dog and this being one of the few fics that I’ve read that looks at John’s family beyond Harry/Clara, I thought I’d let you guys in on it early.

While some could argue Sherlock is slightly out of character, I actually think that it’s a really well written interpretation of Sherlock reacting to a situation he has never been in before but still wanting to be a good friend to John.

And there are new chapters to look forward to, and since it looks like we won’t be getting any new episodes for quite a while *sobbing* new chapters can only be a good thing!

Enjoy :)

Post-Reichenbach angst, in fic form - houseofgreysuperfan

“Ever since his brother’s death, Mycroft Holmes carried two phones. It was surprising that the second phone survived the fall – but he knew the truth of it. He kept it because his brother wasn’t dead, and because his brother could use the occasional reminder of why he did what he did.”

Written and read prior to the Reichenbach episode being shown, but still really beautiful and really really well written. Written from Mycroft’s point of view technically, it shows a series of texts John sends to Sherlock after he believes he is dead. They’re all really in character (And stick to the books canon) and are just lovely, and heartbreaking, and will probably leave you in a sobbing mess, again. Enjoy :)

Reaction - Blind Author

I genuinely -genuinely - cannot recommend this fic enough.

Okay, first up, serious warning : Contains strong, frequent references to non con, and the aftermaths of rape, and if that is a trigger for you I’d recommend you skip this.

Second serious warning - It is bloody brilliant.

Obviously due to the subject matter is super angsty, however it is written beautifully and even without considering the fandom for one second is an amazing piece of writing about the victim and their loved ones dealing with the aftermath of rape. Considering the fandom, both John and Sherlock (And Mycroft) are brilliantly written, and there is even a few lighter, really touching moments in here  to.

Basically, it’s abso-fucking-amazing and you need to read it. Then cry. Go read and cry.

The Same Situations of Six Different Men - jamesgatz1925

“Three couples that we know and the things they do differently throughout their day.”

Johnlock? Check. Mystrade? Check. MorMor? Check. And unlike many multi character fics I’ve read, what I love about this is all the characters are really well written and totally in character! I especially love Mystrade in this one, although it’s pretty difficult to chose as they are all so well done! Read, now.
